Why Our Help Is Needed
Xining Children’s Home will meet the real and immediate needs of some of the area’s most vulnerable children.
The congenital disabilities rate in Qinghai is higher than other provinces in China. Due to the very limited help available to parents of disabled children, as well as the stigma attached to disability, each year a number of disabled babies are abandoned by their biological parents.
Yang Yang and Siqi are two children who were abandoned as babies and are cared for at Xining Children’s Home and Rehabilitation Centre:
Yang Yang
Born with spina bifida and suffering from multiple diseases, Yang Yang was abandoned when he was just a few days old and found by a factory security guard. He joined Xining Children’s Home, where Christian Action fundraised for four surgeries, the last of which enabled Yang Yang to walk for the first time. A local foster family has now been found for Yang Yang. He has a foster brother and is becoming more mobile thanks to the simple rehabilitative techniques his foster parents use with him. Yang Yang is benefiting from the fact that with our encouragement, fostering is becoming more accepted in Qinghai.
Siqi
Born with multiple birth defects, Siqi was abandoned when she was a few weeks old. When she first arrived at the Xining Children’s Home, Siqi was immobile, suffering from deformed hands, knees and elbows, club feet, dislocated hips and heart defects. Today, she attends a normal school and her mobility is improving thanks to restorative surgery and daily rehabilitation therapy. Christian Action’s goal is to find adoptive parents for Siqi.
