Here The Tibetan Plateau Rises...
Welcome to this new web site of Christian Action -UK. I am glad to have the opportunity to show you something of the exciting and transforming work that Christian Action is involved with in the beautiful but remote Qinghai Province in North West China. Here the Tibetan plateau rises to heights of 5000 metres, and here the three main rivers of China find their source, and here many live with hardship, ill health, poverty and disability, but here also there are the sounds of children's laughter, the stark beauty of the plateau, and a new hopefulness.

I first became part of Christian Action nearly 20 years ago when living in Hong Kong and shared in serving the needs of many and varied displaced adults and children in that great city. Since then, Christian Action has greatly expanded its work in Hong Kong to serve many physically, emotionally or economically displaced.
In 1997, at the invitation of the Qinghai (pronounced Ching-hai) Government, Christian Action agreed to work with the Government and local authorities in Poverty Alleviation and in Child Welfare. The needs were enormous, and we began with building homes on the plateau for the poorest of the semi nomadic Tibetan herdsmen and co- managing with the Civil Affairs Bureau the new Home for abandoned and disabled children in the capital city Xining (pronounced Seen-ing).
That was a beginning. I have just returned from visiting Qinghai after ten years of Christian Action involvement, and I am amazed and thrilled by the growth and development of this work and service. Now Christian Action has built 463 Winter Homes, started 2 Clinics, and constructed 9 Junior Schools, 2 children's homes for 600 children in two prefectures, and the Xining Children's Rehabilitation Centre.
However, now even greater challenges face Christian Action. We have been asked to co- manage 8 children's homes for over 3000 children and another Children's Centre and Rehabilitation centre for abandoned or disabled children, as well as other schools and health clinics.
In 2007, we established Christian Action-UK as a Charity and limited Company to seek to raise interest and support for this expanding work. This website is temporary but gives a glimpse of the needs and the opportunities before us. Soon we hope to have a greatly expanded website with more information and pictures of the work. We are seeking for many others to partner with us in support of Christian Action's work and service in this beautiful and needy part of the world.
Please take a moment to go through our website and partner with us by downloading a donation form and sending it in, or by volunteering. To get the latest news please click on the link at the right to visit the blog site of Christian Action's Executive Director : Mrs Siew Mei Ang Cheung.
